Eldred is a borough in McKean County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 858 at the 2000 census.

Eldred is located at 41°57′24″N, 78°23′1″W (41.956725, -78.383579)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 858 people, 362 households, and 241 families residing in the borough. The population density was 979.3 people per square mile (376.4/km²). There were 405 housing units at an average density of 462.3/sq mi (177.7/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.72% White, 0.93% Native American, 0.12% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.47% of the population.

There were 362 households out of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 14.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% were non-families. 30.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the borough the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.4 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $27,569, and the median income for a family was $34,375. Males had a median income of $30,347 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $15,674. About 17.1% of families and 17.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.1% of those under age 18 and 2.5% of those age 65 or over.

Eldred, Pa is the home of the Kendall Bridge. This bridge is reportedly one of only a few bridges in the world in which a road turns of the suspended section off the bridge creating a suspended intersection.
