The Japanese forest ratsnake (Elaphe conspicillata) reaches 70 to 100 centimeters in length. Its Japanese name jimuguri means "burrowing".
It is native to Japan. In the wild it is timid and stays out of sight. Most of the year it remains underground and inactive. It mates in spring and the female lays eggs during the summer.
