As of 2001 India census[2], Elampillai had a population of 10,629. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Elampillai has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 66%. In Elampillai, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Significant section of the population belongs to the Kannada Devanga community and Reddy's.

Elampillai's economy depends mainly on textile industry. It serves as a hub for marketing decentralized textile manufacturers from the surrounding villages.

Hinduism is the major religion in the area. The town has three major temples, namely Mariamman, Sowdeswariamman temple, and Subramanya Swamy temple. Temple car festival of the Mariamman temple usually held in April is a major festival spanning a weeks festivities.
