[edit] Fictional character biography

Elaine Grey is the mother of founding X-Men member, Jean Grey and the wife of John Grey.

During the Inferno storyline, Elaine and her husband were temporarily transformed into a demon by the Goblyn Queen, a clone of their daughter, Jean.

After the death of her daughter, Sara Grey-Bailey, and possibly her husband Paul, Dr. Grey and his wife Elaine took care of their grandchildren, Gailyn and Joey.

When Operation: Zero Tolerance occurred, John was aided by Nate Grey, who ironically is an alternate version of his grandson, Nathan Summers, in saving his grandchildren, Joey & Gailyn.

[edit] End of Grey

Elaine was the last member of the Grey family to be killed by the Shi'ar Death Commandos having survived the initial attack. She was protected by both Rachel and Psylocke and watched the deaths of all her family. She denounced Rachel Grey as being her granddaughter and wished that her daughter Jean Grey had never been born, before dying from an optic blast from Black Cloak that was meant for Rachel.

[edit] Other Media

[edit] Television

  • Elaine Grey appeared in a few episodes of X-Men
  • Sara Grey appeared in a few episodes of X-Men: Evolution, notably the episode On Angel's Wings, in which Jean goes home with her family over Christmas. Jean, along with Elaine, John and Sara, are seen buying so-called "Holiday Trees". Elaine did not have a speaking role in any episode of the series.

[edit] Grey Genome

Elaine, her sister Phyliss, brother-in-law Roy Dennefer, and various other in- laws were the only members of the Grey family not to carry the Grey Genome. Their deaths seem to serve no initial purpose. Phyliss and Roy were murdured so the Shi'ar Death Commandos could create an impeneratrable shield. Elaine was killed by an attack meant for her grand daughter. They, as well as the other relatives by marriage, were seemingly killed at random.

Elaine's body seems to be the only corpse that was not mutilated in any way during the massacure. It was Scott Summers who found his former mother-in-law's body shortly after her death. Elaine's spirit was reunited with those of her husband, and slain family members as witnessed by Rachel.
