Ela Collins

Ela Collins (February 14, 1786 - November 23, 1848) was a U.S. Representative from New York, father of William Collins.
Born in Meriden, Connecticut, Collins attended Clinton Academy. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Lowville, New York, in 1807. He served as member of the State assembly in 1815. He served as district attorney for Lewis, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence Counties 1815-1818, and for Lewis County from June 11, 1818, to March 24, 1840. He served as delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1821.
Collins was elected as one of the Crawford Democratic-Republicans to the Eighteenth Congress (March 4, 1823-March 3, 1825). He resumed the practice of law. He died in Lowville, New York, November 23, 1848. He was interred in Jackson Street Cemetery.
