El Tanque is a municipality in the northwestern part of the island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, and part of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is located about 90 km SSW of the island's capital, NW of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas of Arona and about 60 km NW of Reina Sofia Airport.

The population is 3,198 (ISTAC, 2003), its density is 135.28/km² and the area is 23.64 km². The elevation is 480 m. Santaiago del Teide is linked north of the TF1 superhighway and northwest of the TF38 and west of the TF2 superhighway and also near the highway linking Adeje and Icod de los Vinos. Farmlands are in the valley areas, the mountains and hills that surround El Tanque.

The main economy are agriculture.

The population grew between 1991 and 1996 but slumped in 2001 but risen to the where the highest number of inhabitants last reached in 2002, afterwards, its 2003 and 2004 census read a slowdown.
