[edit] Achievements
El Rancho was awarded the California Distinguished School Award in 2005.[1]
Also, El Rancho's Science Olympiad team has excelled in competition, achieving the distinction of having gone to the national tournament for nine years in a row, from 1997 to 2005. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] However, in 2006 El Rancho's Science Olympiad team earned fourth place at the Southern California state competition, so the team did not go to nationals that year.[10] In 2007, El Rancho regained its title of state champions and went on to compete at the National Tournament on May 19th in Wichita, Kansas.[11] In 2008, El Rancho placed first at the State competition again,[12]and will compete at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. on May 31, 2008 for the National Tournament. In 2008 El Rancho's Science Olympiad made 8th place out of 55 other schools in the country[13]
El Rancho also has a very talented Musical Theatre group. The young performers have three different plays every school year: a Patriotic show, a Broadway Dinner Theatre, and a Star Search show(talent show). Last year's Broadway show was Disney's High School Musical, while this year's Broadway show was Disney's Mulan.
El Rancho Charter School also has a lot to offer in the music department. The school offers courses in beginning band, intermediate band, concert(advanced band), percussion, guitar, and strings. The different courses practice a lot and go out to many concerts and performances. Highlights in the musical department are concerts such as the winter concert and performing at Knott's Berry Farm.
