El Mercenario

El Mercenario (English: The Mercenary) is a fantasy graphic novel by the Catalan-Spanish artist Vicente Segrelles, published starting from 1980. The latest volume was published in 2003.
It tells the story of a mysterious and anonymous mercenary, who lives a series of adventures in a world populated by magicians, dragons, amazons, monsters and other themes of heroic fantasy, with a great attention paid on the depiction of landscapes.
An unusual feature for a comics, every panel is painted in oil, a rather time consuming technique.
