El Diario de Ferrol is a Galician newspaper founded in Ferrol on 1996 and since the 1999 has been edited by El Ideal Gallego. It has a good number of readers and it’s distributed mostly in metropolitan area of Ferrolterra. It must be noted that Ferrol used to have till the early 1980s a very popular newspaper with a very similar name El Ferrol Diario which became extinct during the critical years of the decade which saw the advent of democracy and a terrible recession in the shipbuilding industry. The early 1990s Ferrol started to show a new fresh vitality which was reflected in many ways and El Diario de Ferrol emerged as a new newspaper for a well established Naval Station, Shipyards and old City Port which have just reinvented itself ready for the challenges of the new millennium.

Note: The same building which hosts the headquarters of El Diario de Ferrol hosts an interesting museum devoted to the history of the Newspaper manufacturing in general, though it focuses in El Ferrol and its newspapers since the early years of the 19th century.
