Ekta Apartments (A/2-B)
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) constructed 585 multi-storied Middle Income Group (M.I.G.) Flats in 1982. These flats were allotted to registrants who had filed their applications in 1975-76. DDA named this community, Block A -2/B in Paschim Vihar. Many years later, with the formation of a Residents' Welfare Association (RWA), the flats were renamed as Ekta Apartments and are now usually referred to by this name.
Right opposite the tall buildings of the I.F.C.I colony, these flats are a walking distance to the famous Jwala Heri Market, many a times referred by the locals as “the mini Connaught Place”. The main road in front of the flats connects to the Outer Ring Road which connects to Tilak Nagar, Janak Puri on the West side and Peeragarhi, Madhuban Chowk on the East.
One of the biggest landmarks of Paschim Vihar, besides the Jwala Heri market, is its community park, called the District park. Spawning several acres with a big lake in the center, it is a popular family place for early morning jogs, walks and many picnics. The District Park is adjacent to the west side of the Ekta Apartments and is only a few minutes of walk away.
As if inspired by the proximity to the District Park, Ekta Apartments has a few smaller parks of its own. The biggest and the most central is called Children's Park with swings for the little ones and enough space for the young ones to run around. There are quite a few apartments that face the Children's Park and have a great view of it. The ones that require special mention are from 88 ABC to 91 ABC given their unique layout.
Ekta Apartments also houses a nicely built Hindu Temple called “Durga Mandir”. There have been many people leading the temple, but it has really prospered under the able guidance of its current priest, Pandit (Pt.) Gopal Krishan Suvedi, a great religious scholar of Hindu Religion and Philosophy of Kashi,Uttar Pradesh. With a keen desire to promote peace and religious tolerance, Pt. Suvedi has been very instrumental in arranging and delivering religious discourses alongside many renowned Priests and Saints. The open grounds in front of the Temple gives it enough space to hold various social and religious ceremonies. It isn't unique at Ekta Apartments to see people from all walks of life, irrespective of their faith and beliefs to actively participate in these ceremonies. Durga Mandir celebrates its foundation day on Basant Panchmi every year.
