Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site, located at 208 East Day Street in Denison, Texas, is the birthplace of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was born in the house on October 14, 1890, the first United States President to be born in Texas.

The house has been restored to an 1890 appearance by the Eisenhower Birthplace Foundation, and is currently operated as a Texas State Historic Site.

The house was originally purchased by the City of Denison in the late 1940s as a tribute to the native son who became Supreme Allied Commander, almost six years before he became President. The State of Texas assumed responsibility for the home in the 1960s. On January 1, 2008, Eisenhower Birthplace was transferred from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to the Texas Historical Commission.
