From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eino Kaarlo Ilmari Jutikkala (24 October 1907 in Sääksmäki-22 December 2006 in Helsinki), to 1931 his surname was Rinne, was a Finnish historian, professor emeritus in economic history at Helsinki University 1950-54 and professor emeritus in Finlands history 1954-74.

Eino Jutikkala has written about collective phenomenons in history, and his works has mainly treated social and economic history. Jutikkala's big production consists of the Early modern times economic history and historic demography. He has developed an independent research method, were fiscal sources are combined with a broader width of source material. The advantage is a greater sense of objectivity. Because of his methods the Finnish local history research has improved its quality to a great extent.[1]

For generations of English-speaking readers he has made Finlands history known through his book A History of Finland, which he wrote with Kauko Pirinen.[2]
