Template talk:Eight portals links
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- SteveVertigo (SV) points out that the {{Eight portals links}} does not include a quick link to the actual list of categories below the portal. I propose augmenting the links bar with a link to a heading ===Subcategories and articles:===. Since Komencanto has augmented the links with a 9th, it now laps beyond 1 line; thus the link could be named literally "Subcategories and articles:" with little impact to the layout. Also, in case someone wishes to shorten up the layout, then the "Subcategories and articles:" link could be named literally "→" with the heading as above, which would satisfy SV's criticism. If no one else has objections, I will proceed with the changes as above after a wait of a half-day or so. Ancheta Wis 15:40, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

- This template already takes up enough space without it. (And it doesn't work for all portals). --R.Koot 14:14, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
R.Koot, How's This? The link is a right-arrow to get past the Portal. Elfguy and komencanto, I propose putting in a #Subcategories header line just above the Categories items. Then the right-arrow while get users to the Categories items. I am not sure why it doesn't work for Math and History. Any ideas would be appreciated. Ancheta Wis 23:19, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
Culture | Geography | History | Life | Mathematics | Science | Society | Technology|→
- With the amount of text there now, it can't fit on one line in 800x600 resolution. If the article link is at the front, it's very ugly. At least leave it at the back is my opinion. Elfguy 02:10, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 8
There's 8 portals because the main page intro lists these 8 topics. If you add another topic, you have to add it on the main page too else it makes no sense. Btw Philosohpy wouldnt work since it's a sub-category of Culture. Elfguy 20:54, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Protected
Lucky 6.9 protected this template because it is transcluded into the Main Page. If you want to update it, please alert an administrator; they can do it for you. -- Beland 06:10, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Change categories to include religion
I propose that we change these main categories to at least include religion. Justification follows:
- Religion transcends cultures, and therefore one should not need to click Culture to get to it. Mathematics transcend Science; presumeably this is why Mathematics is segregated.
- We currently have Culture and Society as corporate sorts of categories, and Life as an individual sort of category. Religion for some people is highly individualistic, not corporate.
- The objection has been raised by some people that they choose not to be religious and therefore should not have to look at a Religion link each time they view the main page. Well, many people are severely introverted. Should we eliminate Society in defference to hermits?
- Religion is a topic which relates to the vast majority of human beings.
I would be bold and make the change, but this template is protected.--Mm35173 20:22, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
- I think the subject is not large enough to justify it's own link. --R.Koot 22:23, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
