Eight Days was to be a PlayStation 3 game from Sony's London Studio. It was shown for the first time at Sony's E3 2006 press conference. It is a hybrid of a third-person shooter and driving action that shares similarities with the PlayStation Portable game, Pursuit Force. The title was cancelled on 4 June 2008.[1]
Certain parts of the sequence shown at E3 included a full heads up display, and crosshair, implying true interactive in-game footage. However, opinions were divided about the sequence, some[citation needed] suspected it to be pre-rendered, while others[citation needed] believed it was non-interactive using the game engine which would mean while it was indeed the PlayStation 3 hardware doing the rendering, it may or may not have been indicative of the final gameplay experience. Despite this, it was seen as one of the genuine surprises at Sony's E3 2006 conference.
After E3 and between E3 2007, critics and gaming community noted that; what was shown may be possible, referencing "the Time Crisis series in third person view" as an example. Many have also pointed out that the Eight Days trailer might be a mixture of both gameplay footage and cinematics interlaced with one another to give Eight Days a type-of story at E3, unlike others which just show off footage.
A second trailer was released, but was not shown to the general public. It details a group of people buying guns in Colorado from a masked dealer. They then drive off, leaving the dealer with a pistol, which raises to his head. The screen goes black at that point, but it is most probable that the dealer committed suicide.
On 4 June 2008 Sony Computer Entertainment announced the cancellation of Eight Days and The Getaway for PlayStation 3.[1]
