The town was founded on March 20 of 1893.

The Old Firestation is the cultural center of the town. In the building many concerts, exhibitions, readings and other cultural events organisated by the local Freundeskreis Alte Feuerwache e.V. (Circle of friends of the Old Firestation) take place.
