[edit] St. George’s History (Invasion) Question

Andrew,

I am not sure which information in the history section of the St. George’s Medical School you believe to be unverified by the cited sources. I will happily try to correct any errors or inaccurate citations, but I’m not sure which ones you have problems with.

I am a little puzzled as to why what seems to me to be a fairly innocuous and undisputed piece of information seems to be pushing so many people’s buttons. If you could enlighten me on that score, I’d be grateful. Roregan 16:18, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Hi. Just saying thanks for answering my question on the reference desk. It's nice to have somone actually try to answer the question at hand rather than criticize the apparant level of the questioner's intelligence (not refering to you, just some other frustrating conflicts I've had). By the way, I believe you meant "lactic acid" when you said "lactose" (if I'm off my rocker then please feel free to inform[1] me). BeefJeaunt (talk) 03:17, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removing Medical Questions

When removing medical questions from the RD, it is very helpful to also add a note about it on the talk page with link to the diff. Then, others do not have to click on History and poke through all the changes to see what was removed. -- kainaw 12:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't realize what time it was and I needed to get to class! I've added the diff to the talk page. [2] (EhJJ)TALK 16:55, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Doctor of Osteopathy

Hi go look at the countries that do consider DO to have full license before you make an uncorrect statement. Under Osteopathic medicine you will find this list of countries. MUCH MORE THAN 2! Please do not change the list I put as it is very correct and fair to all parties. Do some more research before posting incorrect information. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.99.254.5 (talk) 00:06, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Images sizes and MOS

Do you think you can show me where it suggests the default size is the preferred size for pictures? Not all users login and configure their image preferences when they browse Wikipedia (like anon users), and large paintings can look cramped and less detailed in small previews. I think specifying image sizes for certain detailed images in the Meaning of life article would be a good way to display them. --NickPenguin(contribs) 02:39, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it is fairly clearly written at Wikipedia:MOS#Images, especially the next section "Image size". The rationale is that users often have varying sizes of monitors and that the MediaWiki software can change the size as per user preferences. I would like to add that the default size is 180px, which is the same size as you had manually set for one image, and slightly larger than for the other (160px). Also, from a cursory glance of featured articles, such as Canada, you will notice that all of the images in that article do not specify a particular width; they use the default "thumb" size. (EhJJ)TALK 02:58, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't know, the first line I read in Wikipedia:MOS#Image_size is that "Image size is a matter of preference." Later, it goes on to say that "The image subject or properties may call for a specific image width to enhance the readability or layout of an article" [where] "cropping [would] reduce the coherence of the image." I see your point about how specifying the same size as the default size is silly and redundant, but images can have specified sizes for a reason: the default size is not always the best size for a particular case. --NickPenguin(contribs) 17:25, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] re: Deleting images in Wikipedia

Regarding the info about deleting images in wikipedia [3], I usually preview the pages, it's just I upload many screenshots, etc... and sometimes a wrong letter in the link of the image just ruins it, because only admins can delete it... thanks for the info sf_007 (talk) 04:33, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah, alright. Well, I need to get some studying done, but so I'll check in later tonight to see if you've made any changes (in Grenada, I'm probably 4 hours behind you) and then again tomorrow if you want to sleep now and work on this tomorrow. (EhJJ)TALK 23:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

I have got up to check this very early, probably a mistake. it seems myself user:urfx and user:phosphorix are naively writing articles here, for that we hold up our hands. is it possibel they might go in a sandbox for others to re-write if they agree or if they see fit? Its just inexperience on our part and probably not having much time to familiarise ourselves with the protocols. Phosphorix (talk) 04:31, 4 April 2008 (UTC) really have to go now but will check in later if possible else next week.

[edit] Music For / Music For Love

I have removed the deletion tag from Music For and added a more specific tag, {{db-histmerge}}, to Music For Love. This is so the page histories can be combined - the tag needs to be on the new location of the article. --Snigbrook (talk) 00:13, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I was just about to write to thank you for doing this for me. Neither page had much of an edit history, so I figured a dirty copy-and-paste move would work. Actually, I completely forgot about the the CSD-G6 category. I'll make sure I do it the right way next time. Thanks again, (EhJJ)TALK 00:16, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

OK, done, I actually suggested an alternative tack on the user's talk page, so my deletion wasn't purely negative. Also note that it says "nationally" without specifying a country, which is a little parochial. Jimfbleak (talk) 16:04, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] re:LDS Maps

The maps you uploaded

look really good. However, I think it would be better if the colours were reversed (blue meaning "a few" and red being "many") which, while opposite of the standard in scientific publications, seems more intuitive. Also, there is currently no source for the information. I would guess you took it from the Wikipedia article, but it would be nice to have that in the images' descriptions. Please let me know what you think. (EhJJ)TALK 13:20, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your input. I've now added the references of the source data to the image pages. These images were created for the Wikipedia article.
I don't think this is of great matter, but I have taken the color scheme into much consideration. I used the color scheme of a rainbow to create these maps. I used the typical way we perceive things using these colors. Traffic flows at greatest speed on green, slows on yellow, and stops at red. So using the rainbow, I used red being values of most few, and blue for the greatest values. I don't mean this as worse or better. Red states are not worse than blue states, they just have fewer.
I don't know what you meant by your suggestion being more intuitive. People have different ways of viewing things like this. If I find a valid reason or consistency of reversing the color scheme then I will do so. If Wikipedia as a whole suggests these colors should be reversed, I will do so.

[edit] About Phosphorix and its products

A number of independent orgnisations have written about Phosphorix (try JISC CETIS or universities like Plymouth, Bournemouth, etc) and the open source products we have developed. Try also specific projects which used the products and software like SHELL project, The Learning Matrix, PDP4LIFE, PDP4XL2, EELLS, XCRI, GCWS, MOVE lifelong learning network, SOLVS, ioNW2

I did a presentation to some of them on Friday and mentioned the protocol for wikipedia articles and the concerns raised by those watching and maintaining it.

As a result, we hope that some of them will write or re-write articles about Phosphorix and in particular its free open source products as used by them or in their projects.

What would your advice be to them? Urfx (talk) 14:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Judica Cordiglia brothers

Why do you say they were NOT radio amateur? They were the first and most famous one in Italy!!!!!--Dejudicibus (talk) 17:05, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

You can find as many links as you want. Just one, the first I picked up by searching in Google: The History of Torre Bert.--Dejudicibus (talk) 17:11, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Did you read your source? I quote:

In the Northern Italy, between 1957 and 1965 two young Turino brothers fan of communication but not amateur radio, Achille and Giovanni "Gian" Battista Judica-Cordiglia set up the first amateur tracking station, "Torre Bert".

(EhJJ)TALK 18:33, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I see, but in Italy they are considered pioneers of amateur radio operators. A lot of modern amateur radio operators in my country have been inspired by them. Really a lot of people decided to become amateur radio operators because of the successes and example of the two brothers. So probably we have to find an agreement on terms. You distinguish between amateur radio operators and fan of communication. Which is the difference? --Dejudicibus (talk) 16:44, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate your help, but can you please stop editing this page. I need to create this page for an assignment and I don't want your contributions to affect my grade. [edit] RE: Hidden Welfare State

I apologize if I stepped out of line. I was just having trouble editing while you were working on the page too. This is my first time adding an article to wikipedia. The assignment is to post an article to wikipedia that broadly relates to social stratification in an effort to improve the social stratification section/articles of wikipedia. The purpose is to create an article that will last on wikipedia so could you please tell me why my page seems to be original research. This is a known term that Christopher Howard has come up with. How could I improve it so that it will not get deleted? I apologize if I was rude and I would appreciate any further help you give me.

[edit] RE: Viluppuram (city)

Dear EhJJ,

  • Thanks for your correction regarding the cutting and pasting in the article Viluppuram (city)Sorry for the cut and pasting instead of using the move feature.
  • Regarding this article Viluppuram (city), the place should never be defined as a city. City "definition" will contribute confusion among readers. By the way a "town" is larger than a village and smaller than a city.
  • All government web pages relate Viluppuram headquaters as "Viluppuram town". There was no single government webpage address Viluppuram as "city". In general local officials and general public always call this place as Viluppuram town. I honestly believe that this information should not be censored.

--Logic riches (talk) 03:33, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Viluppuram (city)

Dear EhJJ,

Thanks you for your reply. Normally here at Chennai, people call Viluppuram (town or city) as Viluppuram only. We don’t mind it’s a town or a city while referring this place to others. But on the other hand the people who live in Viluppuram district for example Kalakurichi or Thirukoilur always call this place as Viluppuram town. So considering the local people sentiments we can name this place as Viluppuram town. Also this name would be more specific to the geographical area. If you term it as “Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu” then naturally there is confusion with “Viluppuram District”.

[edit] RE:Chikenman138

I'm aware that there is clearly no serious information, this is because the book is in the creation stage. I am the author of the book, I am Michael Powell. I read up on my history for a long time, i have actual dates, events, and people in the book yes, but it is clearly fiction. There were only nine crusades, the book states of a tenth one, which clearly is untrue. But if you do feel that it seems strange that I have put the book on wikipedia, I am trying to sread word.If you have any questions, please ask them. I do not mind. --Chikenman138 (talk) 02:40, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
