[edit] Ekpo

  • An IP editor asserted that Ekpo is different from Egbo (Ekpe). So far as I have been able to find out, Ekpo is the name preferred by the Ibibio for their ancestral spirit cult and Ekpe (not Ekkpe the Igbo crop fertility cult) by the Efik for their secret "leopard" society. Nicklin, Keith and Salmons, Jill (August 1982) "On Ekkpe, Ekpe, Ekpo, Ogbom" African Arts 15(4): pp. 78-79. • A secret society called Ekpo aslo apears to exist among the Bini in Nigeria. Ben-Amos, Paula and Omoregie, Osarenren (1969) "Keeping the Town Healthy: Ekpo Ritual in Avbiama Village" African Arts 2(4): pp. 8-13 & 79. --Bejnar 23:16, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
