[edit] History

Beach School was established in 1913. It was the city's second elementary school and it preceded the building of the high school in 1921.[1]

It was named after Egbert W. Beach, who fought in World War I.[2]

[edit] Location

The school is located at 37°49′22″N, 122°14′46″W.[3]

Unlike the other school in the district, which are all well within a one-mile radius of each other, Beach School is relatively far from the center of town. Beach is several blocks from Piedmont Avenue in the city of Oakland.

[edit] Academics

One hundred percent of Beach teachers have full credentials, and the average number of years teaching is 16. The ratio of students to paraprofessional staff is 15:1.[4] The school's API Statewide Rank for 2005 was 10.[4] Its API score was 942,[5] the highest of the three elementary schools in Piedmont,[6] as well as the district average, 920.[7] The state average was a 709.[5]
