Eftersvett
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eftersvett (Swedish for "aftersweat") is an annual theatrical revue show in the Svenska Teatern ("Swedish Theatre") in Helsinki, Finland.
The show is a humorous parody/satire of concurrent Finnish culture and politics, especially from a Finland-Swedish point of view.
Although Eftersvett is produced by a Finnish theatrical team, for a Finnish audience, about Finland, it is almost unilingually Swedish. Only one scene (claimed to take exactly 6% of the duration of the show) is in Finnish, and even that scene is influenced by language politics in Finland. This is intended to mirror the fact that Swedish is an official language in Finland, despite only 6% of Finns speaking it as their native language, but the show does it in reverse.
Many of the jokes in Eftersvett require prior knowledge about Finnish politics and culture, and they often include Swedish language puns, but Finland-Swedes and Finns with good Swedish skills usually find them hilarious.
