- It looks like he is. The closest contender is Michael Foot (born 23 July 1913). James Callaghan held this distinction until his death last year. JRawle (Talk) 19:58, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Was it Ted Short who at one time said that his vision was the day coming when even the girls behind the counters in Woolworths had degrees - a sort of metaphorical reference to education standards rising? But that when, later, unemployed graduates had to take jobs like that because they couldn't find anything better, the conservatives made a joke on his remarks.
