[edit] Arrest

However, his actions led to their arrest by police on April 21, 2006, when he called 9-1-1 after having, along with his wife, experienced what he inaccurately described as an overdose on the brownies. The call to emergency services[1], which lasted 5 minutes, was distributed to the press and was lampooned because of the humorous statements by Cpl. Sanchez. The EMS arrived to Sanchez's house and transported the two to the hospital, and were released the next morning to police custody. While being questioned by police, Sanchez claimed that his wife had taken the contraband from his police vehicle; this claim was backed by the interrogation of Stacy, claiming that she had tricked him into eating the cannabis brownies. However, Edward later admitted to having taken the contraband substance from individuals whom he had arrested, then taken the substance to his house, mixed it into batter, and eaten it willingly. His wife also admitted to having taken cocaine (used to train the police dogs of the police department) from Edward's vehicle and went on a weekend binge.

[edit] Result

Sanchez resigned from the police force on May 11, 2007, before the investigation could be completed. The Police Department then decided not to press charges against either individual. This angered a number of people, including City Councilman Dough Thomas, who questioned the fact that Sanchez could simply reapply for another police position.
