Edward Irenaeus Prime-Stevenson (1868-1942) was an American gay author. He used the pseudonym of Xavier Mayne[1].

Edward Prime Stevenson was born on June 23, 1858 in Madison, New Jersey[1]. His father was a Presbyterian minister and a school principal; his mother was the offspring of a family of men of letters[1].
After studying law, he decided to become a writer and a journalist[1]. He moved to Italy, where the law was more lenient on homosexuality[1].
He is perhaps best known for his 1906 gay novel Imre: A Memorandum, and, to a certain extent, for his 1908 study, The Intersexes[1].
