Edward Hughes (bishop)

Edward Thomas Hughes (born 1920) was the second Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen in New Jersey, U.S.A., succeeding the inaugural Bishop (now Cardinal) Theodore Edgar McCarrick. Hughes was bishop from 1986 to 1997, and following his resignation as bishop, became bishop emeritus. He is outspoken in his beliefs against racism and abortion. Bishop Hughes continues to perform confirmations and celebrate masses throughout the Diocese of Metuchen.
