Edward Clive (later Edward Herbert, 2nd Earl of Powis) (March 22, 1785 – January 17, 1848), was Earl of Powis from 1839 until his death. He was the son of Edward Clive, 1st Earl of Powis and his wife Henrietta Antonia Herbert.
He was educated at Eton and St John's College, Cambridge. In 1804, when his father inherited the earldom, he became Viscount Clive. In 1806, he became MP for Ludlow, retaining the seat until he himself became earl. In 1807 he took the surname and arms of Herbert, in accordance with the will of his mother's brother. He married Lady Lucy Graham, the daughter of James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose, on February 9, 1818, and they had seven children. Succeeding his father as Lord-Lieutenant of Montgomeryshire in 1830, he played a leading role in the suppression of the Chartist riots of 1839. In 1847, he stood for election as Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, being defeated by only 120 votes by Albert, Prince Consort.
The earl died at Powis Castle after being accidentally shot by one of his sons, the Hon. Robert Charles Herbert.
