Edward Beard

Edward Peter Beard (born January 20, 1940) was a U.S. Representative from Rhode Island.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Beard attended Assumption Elementary School and Hope High School, Providence, where he completed high school as well as a college-level course in agriculture. He worked as painter. He served in the Rhode Island National Guard from 1960 to 1966. He served as member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives from 1972 to 1974. He served as delegate, Democratic National Convention, 1976.

Beard was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1981). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Ninety-seventh Congress in 1980. He owned and operated a tavern. He served as director of elderly affairs, City of Providence, Rhode Island from 1986 to 2002. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Democratic nomination to the One Hundred and Second Congress in 1990.

He is a resident of Providence, Rhode Island.
