Vice Admiral Edward Alan Burkhalter, Jr. is a retired U.S. Navy admiral.

Burkhalter was born in Roanoke, Alabama. He attended Auburn University before entering the U.S.Naval Academy and graduating in 1951.

Burhalter was a career submarine officer and pioneer in the nuclear Navy. He was the Navigator on USS SEADRAGON"s historic submerged transit of the famed Northwest Passage. He then commanded USS SKATE, Submarine Division 101, and Surmarine Squadron 22 in LaMaddalena, Sardinia. Flag assignments were in intelligence and national security including Naval Intelligence, Defense Intelligence Agency, and Director of the Intelligence Community Staff. He also seerved as the Director of Strategic Operations for the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Burkhalter served in the United States Navy from 1951-1986, during which his commands included USS SKATE (SSN 578), Submarine Diviision 101, Submarine Squadron 22 and Naval Intelligence Command.

Burkhalter is president of Burkhalter Associates, Inc., a consultancy firm. Burkhalter served as a director on the board of SteelCloud, Inc. from 1997 to 2008. In July 2006, he became the Chairman of the Board of SteelCloud, Inc.
