Edurne Pasaban
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Edurne Pasaban (born August 1, 1973, in Tolosa, Spain) is a Spanish mountaineer. She is the third woman, after Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Nives Meroi, who has climbed ten of the fourteen eight-thousanders[1]:
- 2008 - Dhaulagiri
- 2007 - Broad Peak
- 2005 - Nanga Parbat
- 2004 - K2
- 2003 - Gasherbrum I
- 2003 - Gasherbrum II
- 2003 - Lhotse
- 2002 - Cho Oyu
- 2002 - Makalu
- 2001 - Mount Everest
Edurne has yet not successfully summited Annapurna I, Kangchenjunga, Manaslu, and Shisha Pangma.
Accidentally, she summited on Broad Peak July 12, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. local time, only one hour before Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner did the same, which made it Kaltenbrunner's tenth eight-thousander. On May 1, 2008, Pasaban summited Dhaulagiri, as did Kaltenbrunner the same day again. Both seem to downplay the aspect of a race between them for the first woman to climb all 14 eight-thousanders.
She is only the fourth woman currently alive that has climbed K2 (the others being Nives Meroi, Eun-Sun Oh and Yuka Komatsu)[2]. She lost portions of several toes to frostbite.
