Education for Development

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Education for Development (EFD) - non-profit organization providing assistance in improving and expanding services for disadvantaged children in Vietnam. Established by Koen Van Acoleyen and Sebastien Barmaz in 1996 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Organization trains and funds its local partner agencies, which directly contact and support disadvantaged children including street, working, migrant, and poor children. It is run mainly by volunteers, involving UN Volunteer Specialists, University Volunteers, and funded by private individuals and companies. Around 30 volunteers in the community provide information to households with children at school age, on enrolment procedures, scholarships, administrative and legal matters (such as residence papers and birth certificates) and child rights.[1]

EFD was officially incorporated in Switzerland and Belgium, in 1996 and registered in Australia, in 2002. The formed associations in these countries are called EFD's fundraising units.

A newsletter (3 times a year), an Annual Report and various special reports are published by EFD.[2]
