Eduardo Michaelsen

Eduardo Michaelsen (born Eduardo Apolonio Michaelsen y Riveri on April 18, 1920 in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba) is a Cuban painter.

In 1944 he studied for 2 months at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro" in Havana, Cuba and in 1967 he started a Course on Museography, at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana. From 1955 till 1972 he was Technical Assistant in the museum's restoration department, but since 1980 he resides in San Francisco, California, U.S.A.. Among visual arts he works mostly paintings.

[edit] Individual exhibitions

He presented Oleos. Michaelsen in 1963 at the Lyceum of Havana, Cuba. In 1978 he also showed Escucha mi son. Michaelsen 21 óleos in the Galería Ho Chi Minh of the Ministerio de Justicia in Havana, Cuba. Three years later some Works by E. Michaelsen were exhibited in Main Line Gifts, San Francisco, California, U.S.A.. In 1991 he named after himself another exhibition at the San Francisco Artspace, in San Francisco, California, U.S.A.. Later, in 1994 Memorias de Cuba y temas de Santería. Paintings and Drawings were exhibited from in the Meridian Gallery of San Francisco, California, U.S.A. and in 1997 he showed Michaelsen. Oil on Canvas in the Cuban Collection Fine Art, Coral Gables, Florida, U.S.A..

He participated in 1962 on Trabajadores del Museo Nacional at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana. In 1982 he made 10 Out of Cuba in the INTAR Latin American Gallery of New York, U.S.A and in 1987 Art in Exile. An exhibit of Immigrants Artists in the Nexus Gallery of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. 1995 brought Absolut Mariel. A Historic Overview 1980-1995 at the South Florida Art Center, Ground Level Gallery, Miami Beach, Florida, U.S.A and also an Art-Exhibit and Silent Auction of Works by Contemporary Artists to Benefit FAITH Services in the month of May in the Jadite Galleries of New York, U.S.A to collect, conserve, exhibit, and interpret the Visual Arts produced by Artists of Cuban Heritage.
