Edouard Agneessens (August 24, 1842–1885) was a Belgian painter. He was prolific in his work. A statue by Thomas Vincotte, entitled Agneessens was erected in his honor at the Boulevard du Midi in Brussels, Belgium. His most recently sold works include: Standing Male Nude 1870 (sold November 16, 1994), Ladies by a Piano (sold October 15, 1998) and Bloemenstilleven (sold December 7, 2002).
Agneessens built up quite a career in Saint-Petersburg, but returned to Brussels in the 1880's when it became clear he was losing his mind.
the statue in Brussels is not at bd du Midi, but at Anneessensplein and commemorates François Anneessens, not Edouard Agneessens.
