It should be noted that Jabes was not simply raised in Egypt. He was born there as were both his parents. His Egyptian origins are legitimate. Like many Egyptian Jews, he is strongly associated with this culture. In fact, we would not understand his work without understanding the modern Egyjewish culture.

The statements about in which year Jabes received the Prix des Critiques are contradictory in the French and the English Wikipedia article. The French says 1970, the English 1972 - which one is true??? -h.p.
