The Castle was constructed in 1938, and was designed by M Cavanagh, the architect of the buildings at the Christian Brothers College, Perth site in the central-business district of Perth. The building was constructed in the Inter-War Gothic and Late 20th century organic style with red-brick walls and tiled roof.[1] The wing runs north-south across the front of the College and is named in honour of Blessed Edmund Rice.

The Castle was funded largely by donations and from money obtained from the sale of some of the original 234 acres purchased by the Christian Brothers in 1928.[2]

It was designed by the architects; James Cavanagh, Michael Cavanagh & Gordon Clifton.[3]

The Castle was heritage listed by the Heritage Council of Western Australia on May 1 1989.[1]
