Edmund Arbuthnott Knox

Edmund Arbuthnott Knox (6 December 184716 January 1937) was the fourth Bishop of Manchester, from 1903 to 1921. He was described as a prominent evangelical [1].

Born in Bangalore, the second son of Reverend George Knox and Mary Anne Reynolds, he served in India and had close connexions with the Church Missionary Society; he lived for a short time in Surrey and was Sub-Warden of Merton College, Oxford. He was rector of St Wilfrid's Church in Kibworth from 1884 to 1891, and afterwards rector of Aston in Birmingham.

He married Ellen Penelope French (1854–1892), daughter of Thomas Valpy French, Bishop of Lahore. He was father of six children:
