Edmond Castle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Edmond Castle is a nineteenth century structure north of the village of Hayton, Cumbria in England.[1] The history of Edmond castle is intertwined with the Graham family.[2] The local area is rich with early history of the Romans in Britannia, as witnessed by the proximity of Hadrian's Wall a few kilometres to the north. This wall forms the earliest recorded history of the vicinity. The length of Hadrian's Wall is approximately 117 kilometres, spanning the width of Britain; the wall incorporated Agricola's Ditch[3] and was constructed chiefly to prevent harrying of settled Britannia by small bands of raiders and entrance of unwanted immigrants from the north, rather than as a fighting front to defend a major invasion.[4]
