[edit] Scheduled weekly checks

The following pages ought to be on the watchlist, but cause too much 'noise'.
Aim to check weekly in case of edits requiring attention...

  • Automobile -- watched by MANY people -- EdJogg (talk) 13:46, 22 April 2008 (UTC) - On watch
  • Steam -- (last edit was by EdJogg on 8th April!) 13:46, 22 April 2008 (UTC) - On watch
  • User talk:Carcharoth -- re 'Station Jim' only -- 12:05, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bank Hol - ToDo

  • 15th May: Steam Turbine - major rewrite (by expert!)
  • 19th May: Compound engine - following John of Paris's 'rewrite'
  • 19th May: The Railway Stories - hunt for the other Ted Robbins CDs...also note addition of tape for books 39-41 check the ISBN!
  • 19th May: Compare steam engine article with that of a month or so back. See if any major information is lost.

[edit] Boiler articles

Originally noted by EdJogg at User talk:John of Paris...

"I'd like to propose the following to bring your article into correct alignment with the others":

  1. Rename new article boiler or steam generator as 'Boiler (steam generator)', since that is essentially what you're discussing, I think
  2. Update Steam generator (which is a DAB page) to suit
  3. Move Boiler to 'Boiler (hydronics)' or 'Boiler (hot water systems)', removing text specifically related to steam generation, and providing appropriate cross-links
  4. Create a new 'Boiler' DAB page
  5. (This is the hard part!) Update boiler links accordingly!

"Having looked at hydronics, I can see that the term 'boiler' for central heating systems obviously arose from the earliest versions that pumped steam to radiators (somewhat before my time!) and the term has stuck, even though current systems should not actually boil the water (if they're working properly)."

[edit] Proof-reading needed...

Request from BulleidPacific: LSWR N15 Class -- (27/03/08)

Currently proof-reading: Newcomen steam engine -- lots of changed text -- (end Nov 07 - 24 Jan 08)

Completed to (end of): Dennis Papin...
Notes:
  1. First para of "Introduction and spread" needs some adjustment
  2. Start of 'Precursors' needs tweaking, to remove 'number' (twice) and 'Around 1600..' which sounds like a number rather than a year.

The following articles have received significant (step-change) updates and require proof-reading.
Date indicates when a significant burst of editing took place, not the last edit.

Found, by chance!
For period 04 - 08 Feb 2008

These articles need proof-read and 'cleanup' for changes between Jul 27 and Aug 31.

[edit] General Tasks

Identified by Recent Change patrolling (via Watchlist) and general WikiGnoming.
Watch for 'copy-edit creep', where a typo fix leads to exponential editing!

  1. VERY URGENT -- AT TRAINSPOTTINGWORLD: All Railway Series book covers need a 'fair use rationale' added. Recommend creating a basic template that can be added to all images, that includes a comment noting that further information will be applied in due course.

  1. Blackball (pool) -- needs a new picture of rack (triangle) of balls - present one is rubbish! ()23:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)0
  2. Dapdune Wharf is very sparsely covered! At some stage, add ref to the water turbine, which used to be installed at the Town Mill. (For text/refs re turbine, see River Wey.) But best to leave until you can expand it for a DYK!! (05 Apr 2008)
  3. Minor characters in The Railway Series -- Gwernol has been heavy-handed and removed ALL the information for Wilbert (on the basis that he is not a 'real' locomotive). Need to double-check all the facts (with refs) and restore, possibly in a different section. Should also consider re-adding Talyllyn and Dolgoch (with suitable refs), also removed. (05 Apr 2008)
  4. Skarloey Railway, Mid Sodor Railway, etc -- various edits by Antonia palmieri (talk · contribs) (and others) which have disconnected these two pages. Mainly applies to coaching stock (eg edit 18th March). Must check vs refs.
  5. Many of the Railway Series characters have had 'former numbers' assigned, most of which are probably fictitious. Also check latest Skarloey Railway change vs refs. User 76.118.22.194 (talk · contribs) has added several recently (25 Jan 08), which are not mentioned on Martin Clutterbuck's pages. Need to check and update all characters against references! Also note that this user has added spurious or unhelpful information (eg Emily is Thomas' girlfriend) to many railway pages, although not all edits are bad. (25/01/08)
  6. Find a way of incorporating {{SA-e&e}} (which is left-justified) onto your user page - see Wikipedia:Service awards for details -- (16/01/08)
  7. Railroad plough -- under development. Need to integrate text from German WP, etc. (17/11/07)
  8. 2019 in rail transport -- answer cite request - easy source at Caltrain - if Slambo doesn't get there first! (17/11/07)
  9. Starlight Express -- <<HOME>> -- (06/11/07) -- Having found ref for link to Thomas the Tank Engine (see latter's talk page for details), must add appropriate history to:
  10. Wapping Hydraulic Power Station at the very least, the new sub-brit article link needs formatting (03/11/07)
  11. Salvage Squad -- headings for crew bios has been removed (understandably, as the sections were empty!) (03/11/07)
  12. GWR Autocoach plus railmotors and push-pull working - this webpage is a mine of information!
    (http://www.igg.org.uk/gansg/00-app3-4/ap3-pp.htm) (02/11/07)
Responding to a need for stopping services between long-distance express trains, in 1905? the GWR introduced its first steam railmotor service between A and B. The steam railmotor is a single passenger carriage with an integral steam engine bogie at one end, plus driving cabs at both ends. The service proved so popular that (~) trailers were built to provide extra accommodation. The trailers were built to resemble the railmotors in appearance, but were only provided with a single driving cab. These were the first purpose-built 'auto trailers'.
  13. Sodor (fictional island)#The Railways of Sodor -- having added 'the first railway on the island', there is now a glaring hole in the history between the first railway and 1914! (08/10/07)
  14. Add {{RoutemapRoute}} to the various GW branchlines, North Downs Line, Cuckoo Line (see below), etc, to get it more into the public domain (21/09/07)
  15. Rail transport -- Has been identified as a WP 0.7 article, yet it is in a terrible state. Much work is required to get it to GA status! (12/09/07)
  16. Logo for Mother's Union has been deleted (no doubt as non-'free use') and the filename re-used - ask Mum about sourcing a replacement. -- Suggest looking at Image:Mocktheweek.JPG for suitable 'logo' FUR. (also logo on Sharp Corporation) (25/08/07)
  17. Penmanshiel Tunnel - section about fire incomplete: needs further info from 'Red for Danger' (27/07/07)
  18. Check accuracy of today's edits to List of Railway Series Books (03/07/07)
    • Which has now been labelled as 'unreferenced' (11/07/07)
  19. DAB Old Oak Common to Old Oak Common TMD (+wikilink the Greenford route on the first of these pages) (29/06/07)
  20. The Cuckoo Line for User:Muchclag (25/06/07) (04/06/07)
    • Amend route map - doesn't show junctions at each end, nor at Eridge, which is still open!
    • Create a section for the closed stations and change the existing stubs to redirects.
    • Add {{RoutemapRoute}} to RouteMap (Updated task: 19/09/07)
  21. Wharncliffe Viaduct reqs further copy-editing (23/06/07)
  22. Coupling (railway) -- section on buffer-and-chain requires a cleanup (rewrite) tag as it is completely in the wrong order! (23/06/07)
  23. Add {{workpage}} to user pages as approp (also compare other templates in cat. (20/06/07)
  24. User talk:Chris j wood stuff about Funiculars and, especially 'Cliff Lifts' (19/06/07)
  25. Add Hill Train details to Windsor Safari Park (16/6/07) -- ditto to Legoland Windsor
  26. Markfield Beam Engine -- not urgent, but would be an enjoyable edit from the new ref found (see talk page) and from the official website. (14/06/07)
  27. Greenford Branch Line -- update it (with pics!) before you forget... (26/05/07)
  28. Chepstow Bridge -- needs work -- former GA candidate requiring lede and refs (01/07/07)
  29. Hit and miss engine -- requires work (has three edit banners!) (26/05/07)
  30. The Titfield Thunderbolt -- add section describing the rolling stock used (websites can provide some of the information) (05/06/07)
  31. Try 'Frame' instead of 'Thumb' for larger images. Make notes in User:EdJogg/EditHelp

[edit] Multi-edit Tasks

Non-urgent tasks which can be accomplished over multiple mini-edit sessions without adverse effect:

  1. List of traction engine manufacturers -- hunt for suitable links for the manufacturers, many of the founders already have articles
    • Completed to: ????
  2. Check articles in Cat:Water transport stubs to see which can be reclassified as {{UK-canal-stub}}. Watch-out for any that can be part of Cat:Water transport infrastructure or its subcats (canals, tunnels, locks, etc), and Cat:People associated with canals and its subcats (engineers, executives)

[edit] WP:THOMAS work

  1. Thomas the Tank Engine merchandising section 'Thomas in toyboxes' needs an overhaul. (08/10/07)
  2. List of Railway Series books -- several new edits today. Many are borderline 'superfluous', but might be OK. All need proof-reading. (14/06/07)
  3. The Fat Controller -- someone has added a quite good section about 'Origin of nickname', however it is effectively unsourced. Need to consult The References and cite appropriately. (05/06/07)
  4. Mid Sodor Railway -- confirm accuracy of recent edit to 'In Model Form'
  5. Percy the Small Engine -- Check 'The TtTE man' for refs to Percy's origins + update as required
  6. Ffarquhar -- proof-read recent edits (27/04/07) + confirm detail vs ref books
  7. Railway engines (Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends) -- Skarloey engines have had names re-linked to stand-alone articles (including Duncan!) (29/04/07)
  8. Christopher Awdry -- link already present, but mention the new website incl. on-line shopping "as a new departure...etc" (30/04/07)
  9. W.V. Awdry – find archive copy of old Awdry site (http://www.aran48.dsl.pipex.com ), partic the Ffarquhar branch and 'The Study' (the latter is not on the new site). Add preservation status of the two models... (30/04/07)
  10. 'merchandising page' -- add links to new Awdry website and mention it within text (30/04/07)
  11. My Thomas Story Library -- complete (Alphabetical) listing of the stories to date is avail from Awdry site – cross-check and add link!(This ToDo needs editing!) (30/04/07)
  12. [PROJECT] -- Railway line naviboxes for Fictional Locations (see Workshop)
  13. [PROJECT] -- Skarloey Railway character rationalisation (see WP:THOMAS project page) (April 2007)

  2. Register on WP-Commons: and start uploading/using images
  3. Edit traction engine captions to cross-Wikilink back to WP articles for manufacturer, etc

[edit] If really bored...

If you really can't think of anything else to do, try working on one of these...

  1. For each entry in List of BBC Radio 4 programmes without dates, hunt down the dates!
