[edit] Cascadia

cascadia (talk ยท contribs) I am just looking for some sort of feedback to see where I am at so far, anything I may need to brush up on, etc. I'm not looking to be a Wikipedia Admin, I just want to get a feel for how I'm doing and anything I'm doing wrong.CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 03:22, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Reviews

Hi, I looked at the article you provided and the major incident that you were involved with - namely, Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/University of Phoenix. Here's what I found:

  1. Your article writing skills are not bad, but they need to improve. You certainly enhanced much of the material in Road trip, but it is not yet a Good Article, mainly because it's not well-organized, and not all references have been provided. (I'm not an expert on how to do this properly, but I can answer if you leave a question on my talk page.) I recommend you start reading "today's featured article" on the Main Page so that you get a sense of what a good article looks like.
Thank you for the feedback. I've been working outside of Wikipedia to improve the article (additional resource finding, writing, etc.), I just have not implemented any of them yet. All in due time. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY
  1. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. I know you plan to be here for a while, but it's not a good sign that you have more edits on your userpage than in the encyclopedia itself. Your main focus should be on writing articles.
Unfortunately, I haven't had much time lately to write articles or do many major edits, so I have been practicing with layout by altering my userpage, as to keep from messing up a potentially good article.CascadiaTALK|HISTORY
  1. I don't like content disputes; I stay as far away from them as I possibly can. I'm sure that you and N6 felt strongly about that link to UOPSucks, and if you had asked me I would have agreed with you. Skimming the discussion, I got the impression that your adversary grew nastier as he realized that he was losing the argument. Nonetheless, I cannot absolve you from blame. Your insistent stance that your position was consistent with policy somehow managed to annoy your adversary, and at one point in the discussion he called you out for incivility, if I read correctly. It's important to stay cool in disputes, and to remember that there are other things in life, and too many kilobytes were wasted over what, from an outsider's perspective, seems to be a minor issue. It's not always possible, but try to stay out of such disputes in the future - let other people handle them. YechielMan 07:26, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
I too agree on staying away from disputes. I personally try to do so myself as best as possible. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 13:12, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
My rewrite of Road trip is my best so far. It was my first total rewrite of an article, and I think I did OK on it the first time. I spent days researching all aspects of the Road trip hobby's history to make sure the article was accurate.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I've been in conflicts in the past, and personally I'll try to stay away from it as best as possible. I've dealt with it by sticking as close to policy as humanly possible, but I do need to make sure I think about what I say before I say it.
