Wikipediarules2221 (talk · contribs) Hello. I have been editing on Wikipedia for a couple of months I believe and was just looking for some feedback on how I am doing. I have been involved in counter vandalism and speedy page deletions as well as contributing facts to articles. I have also just completed my first article, which is on the kabosy and I plan on continuing to create articles on African instruments and music. Also, I have just began to get into AfD debates and I am also continuing to patrol new pages (one of my hobbies)Let me know what you think of me as a contributor so far. Thanks a lot. • You've been doing a good job, and it's good to know that the issue about the vandal who shares your IP has been resolved. Perhaps you could take revenge on him by boosting your vandal fight with VP2. :-) More participation on AfD would look good, as well as joining a WikiProject that you find interesting. Now, if you don't get mad at me, I could also suggest that you change your username to a more personal creation. Some users might find your current name too light-minded and that could have a negative effect on a future RfA. Regards.--Húsönd 02:17, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Hello there! First of all, you should redirect User talk:Patbaseball2221 to your current talk page, as it is still receiving Esperanza newsletters.
    • The only image you have updated, has been deleted because of lack of license. So, you should consider reading more about image copyright tags.
    • Your edit summary usage is pretty good, mostly because of VP, but good nevertheless.
    • You have an impressive amount of user talk edits, which is expectable from someone who deals with vandalism. However, the amount of edits you have in article talk pages is less than 1% of your total edits. Personally, this is not good. While user talk edits indicate you are interacting with people personally, article talk edits indicate you are interacting with several persons about the same topic at the same time, coordinating efforts, giving ideas, discussing, etc. I suggest you to focus on talk pages, even if that is only to give an opinion about an article.
    • XFD participation is good, however, I checked around and noticed that your participation appears to be exclusively to discussions where a clear consensus is obtained. Except in one, where you gave the first opinion, and not counting the ones you have sent to AFD, in the others you just add a vote to the side that is "winning". Could you show me at least one participation where most were favouring keep, and you voted delete, or where majority was asking to delete the article, and you thought the article was worth keeping? While, as I said, people participating in XFD is appreciated, personally I hold in high esteem those who participate in conflicting XFDs. The same can be said about RFA votes. This is a vote I would have never done, as there is no need to pile on when there is a clear consensus already.
    • Good to see that you realized this edit did not deserve a warning.
Overall, you are a pretty good editor, focused on vandalism. However, I suggest you to also work with articles from time to time. Remember, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia before anything, and editors are expected to build the existing knowledge. Your article about kabosy is good, and will likely spawn a good amount of african articles which the encyclopedia lacks (just as it lacks many topics that are not european or american). Hopefully you will find a good balance between writing and expanding and fighting vandalism. Good luck! -- ReyBrujo 01:50, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
By the way, I just realized you overwrote your previous edit review, please be careful next time. -- ReyBrujo 04:27, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
Well I am pleased with my work on cutting down vandalism seeing as there is so much of it but I am also pleased with my article on the kabosy (although it is short) I have a profound interest in African music and am looking to increase the amount of African music articles on Wikipedia.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Well there is an apparent vandal who shares my IP adress and that has caused me some frustration because I find myself blocked for his handy work. Even as recent as today, my IP was blocked; however, one of the admins blocked the IP while letting my username to contribute, which I appreciate greatly.

  • Well, 1500-odd edits in the last seven weeks is an excellent rate of contribution - keep it up, because you're off to a really good start. In terms of improving your activities, I'd recommend firstly that you consider using edit summaries for every edit you make, regardless of how necessary it may appear: they really do make life easier, for everyone. Aside from that, you might like some other activities such as recent change patrolling or perhaps AfD debates to involve yourself in vandal-fighting and maintenance, respectively. They're two good ways to get yourself more into contributing, and can be very useful for getting to know the ins and outs of Wikipedian policies and guidelines. Happy editing in the future, and I hope to see more of you soon! :) RandyWang (chat me up/fix me up) 08:17, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Your contribution rate is very impressive *stares in wonder* Judging by your user talkspace edits, you seem to be friendly and helpful around other (sensible) users, which is never a bad thing. And your vandal-fighting rate is high too, which is... well, not so nice to see, but someone's gotta do it! Your recent edits have all shown edit summaries, so I guess that was just an early thing. As David says above me, get yourself into recent changes and new pages patrolling, AfD debates if you like removing the weak points around here, and all that sort of thing – you will probably enjoy (or at least get into) this aspect of the encyclopedia, judging by your heavy vandal-fighting rates. I like the direction you're heading in – just be careful not to tread on too many toes! See you around, riana_dzastatceER • 00:06, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
