Srose (talk · contribs) I've been editing on Wikipedia for about two and a half months now. I aspire to be an admin in several months and would like some feedback on how I'm doing and how I can improve. :) Srose (talk) 18:12, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Reviews
- It's good to see that you've built up a level of involvement in the Wikipedia space, and that you're reasonably active overall. I'd suggest keeping an eye on Special:Newpages if you don't already, since nominating articles for deletion, speedy deletion and cleanup/wikification/expansion can be very useful for developing your knowledge of processes related to adminship. You show a lot of promise, though, and I hope to see you around in the future. RandyWang (chat me up/fix me up) 15:38, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yea first and foremost, try to build up the Wikispace and talkspace edits. AfD can be fun, especially in a heated, um... discussion, and it's a great way to know policy like the back of your hand. You are a very good writer, you do a great job copyediting, however I did notice one problem-- you are a bit too lenient on the vandals. I think it's great to assume good faith, etc, but the best way to proceed is to leave {{test1}}, {{test2}} and so on. This is a pretty clear-cut case of vandalism, with the vandal claiming Ben affleck was born in Guatemala. [1]. But anyway, other than that I think you're doing a great job, and in 3 or 4 months you'll make an ideal candidate. Good luck! AdamBiswanger1 14:09, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know anything about Ben Affleck. I barely remember what he looks like most of the time, so I figured maybe it was an honest mistake or somebody experimenting. I left a test message on the vandal's userpage, but I thought it was either a mistake or a simple test, so I used test1. I've started using more "vandal" reverts very recently. Additionally, I'd like to sincerely thank you for your compliment about my writing skill. :)Srose (talk) 13:51, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Great job on Wikiproject:Estonia. I'd suggest more mainspace, and especially big article contributions (I say this a lot -- even to Blnguyen, the editor king of admins, when he was at ER). Your Estonia related articles are very well written, but adding in-line citations would be great. Oh, and probably not a good idea to support POV wikiprojects. -- Samir धर्म 08:36, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that WikiProject turned out to be embarrassing! In all fairness, though, I wasn't aware of Striver's track record. Since learning of it I've changed my 'vote'. It seemed like a Project focusing on a conspiracy theory, but now that I've looked at it more closely, I share everyone else's concerns. When I started out at Wikipedia, I created quite a few articles (and I still do - see Constitution of Estonia; that was a headache!), but now I try to balance myself between RC Patrol, XfDs and articles. Thanks for your suggestions! Srose (talk) 13:51, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think you have a good balance going, although I was surprised to see that you have so many user talkspace edits – then I read a few and realised that you're just a very nice person :) I think you're doing a good job. You write well, and your project space edits are impressive. Keep it up! — riana_dzasta • t • c • e • ER • 15:14, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Wow, impressive. I am very glad that the Wikipedian community has somebody like you. You are a very nice person with great contributions to the project. I think that you are on the right path and that all you need to do is keep up the good work. It is really nice to see somebody really involved in the Wikipedia community and looking to spread happiness and nice comments as much as you are. Continue doing what you do. - Thank you so very much, Wikipediarules (I echo your sentiment!), for taking the time to review me. Your kind words are very much appreciated. I took the liberty quite some time ago of replying on your talk page, but I decided to post something here too so that everyone else knows how your comments have touched me. :) Srose (talk) 02:07, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- There is no doubt in my mind that you are an excellent editor and an very nice person. I like your contributions to projectspace debates (try CfD, RfD, and TfD, if you're feeling bold). Keep working on expanding yourself as a Wikipedian and the results will show. Yanksox 21:53, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, Nick. I really appreciate that you took the time to review me on Wikipedia. I probably should involve myself more in CfD, RfD, and TfDs. I do tend to focus a bit on AfDs and MfDs. I've thanked you on your talk page and over the phone as well, but somehow I guess I've overlooked thanking you here! Oops! Thank you so much for taking the time to review me. Your comments are very much appreciated. :) Srose (talk) 02:07, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- They might be about to remove your review after the 30-day inactivity period, so I decided to participate and grant you 30 more days. I checked your contributions and it is clear to me that you are walking the right path to adminship. You revert a lot of vandalism, participate in AfD and RfA, and you appear to be a very amicable editor. I foresee that very soon I'll be supporting your RfA. Keep up the great work! Questions
- Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- I am proud of a number of my contributions. Recently, I was bold and created the WikiProject on Estonia. To see the pages I've created (I believe there are about twenty), visit User:Srose/myarticles.
- Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- I have had only one "conflict", and I'm not sure it can be called such. I removed what seemed to me a "touristy" section of Bavaria - it had only pictures that weren't really relevant to the article, in my opinion. The anonymous user who added the pictures posted on my talkpage calling me several inappropriate names in a foreign language. Hoopydink posted on my talk page to express his disagreement with my decision. I considered his thoughts and reverted my own edits and posted a {{subst:smile}} on the anonymous user's talk page. I was offended that I was told that my behavior was wrong when I had always been civil, and also at Hoopydink's assumption that I used a template warning, which I did not. After lengthy, constantly civil conversation, the "conflict", if it can be called that, was resolved when I posted another smile on Hoopydink's user talk and extended the hand of friendship. While I still believe that the section of the Bavaria article that I removed does not belong, I restored it and put it up for discussion on the article's talk page. In the future, I will always propose a "huge" (and non-vandalism related) change like that on an article's talk page so as not to offend.

- I generally dislike these "pin an editor down about a specific edit/incident and use it to generalize everything about them, including their mother's maiden name and blood type" questions. :) Having said that, and disclaiming that I'm new to WP and not really an expert, I give you the following 2 cents.
- Bavaria#Sights is a speedy delete IMHO and you were right to be WP:BOLD.
- Seems part of WP, and especially adminship, is finding/knowing about something which can be used as precedent to support ones position, without going to WP:Wikilawyering See Talk:Moscow#Poll and the note about how galleries affect WP:FA status.
- While criticsm can be positive feedback, coming from an anonIP lessens it somewhat, coming from the contributor (read as WP:OWN), lessens it more and by time you get to 3rd grade remarks on a user page.
- Your contributions User_talk:84.154.2.63 were appropriate. It's a goofy standard, one is not supposed to WP:BITE the newbie, WP:AGF on their part, but still try to point out WP:NOT? And when someone else points out that the manner in which you WP:NOT may not have been 100% politically correct, doesn't WP:AGF apply to that action as well? After all, if you take out WP:NOT from any WP:XfD, you really don't have much left. :)
-
- See also #1, not taking shots at you or hoopy. Whatever possible misunderstanding there seems more than resolved and more editors should take note of the manner in which it happened.
- Guess I really didn't comment on the content portion of the edits, got caught in the admin portion. I'll try to followup on that in a shorter format. :)

- Wow - thanks for putting so much time into your comments. I really appreciate it. I agree that perhaps I should not have referred to WP:NOT, but I did want to explain my point of view AND not use a template on someone who obviously was not a vandal. It's a little bit of a squeeze, as you mentioned! :) Thank you again for your time and comments; if there's anything you need, feel free to contact me! :) Srose (talk) 18:12, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
