[edit] Penwhale

Penwhale (talk · contribs) Kind of an on-and-off editor, do some occasional edits but have been RC patrolling the past few days, as well as dishing out the warning templates. Just wanting some input on how I've been doing, as I've never had an editor review before. Penwhale | Blast the Penwhale 09:28, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I can certainly see by your edit count you've been an erratic contributor, but from what I can see you've been a valuable help, expecially in this last few weeks. "How you are doing" is a vague and subjective term, but I'll try and give some input as best I can. First, I do see you've been RC patrolling, and have notified the users, which is a great thing; often editors will simply revert, and not warning the editor, especially if he had good intentions, often hurts more than helps. Secondly, I see you've done some help at AfDs, and looking at your more recenet "votes", I applaud you for providing detailed reasoning in your additions: too many users treat AfDs as a vote and do not further the discussion. I aslo see you've expressed interest in joining Wikipedia:WikiProject user warnings, which is also good; I find Wikiprojects are very helpful, even if its something like Warnings. Overall, the one suggestion I have is to think about contributing more to mainspace articles in a dedicated fashion. You mentioned you're a gamer, so why not check out some of the gaming articles? Many are written in-universe, are unsourced, and not in formal tone, and could use help. There's also a ditty called SuggestBot which helps editors find articles they are interested in; while it'll be less effective since you do so much RCP, I still think it might help to zero in on articles you'd like to work on, if that appeals to you. • Thank you for the review. I have to say that I edit Wikipedia whenever I'm not actively playing computer games (or when my own computer is broken-- I'm currently using my sister's computer!), so my edits are usually in a chunk at a time. - Penwhale | Blast the Penwhale 03:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Hello Penwhale! I believe David brought up most of the things you can improve on. The only thing that I would suggest is you utilize a tad more edit summary usage (85% major edits, 92% minor edits). Those numbers aren't bad but often I cannot stress that edit summary can be overlooked. Its a system function which can come in very handy. I can reference to my edits from a couple of months ago way easier thanks to a short but helpful summary. That's pretty much all I could stress on, other than that nothing much else to say :).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
Lately I've been RC patrolling, but I also find that my gaming knowledge allows me to play a role in gaming articles, more or less.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A particular vandal, whom I reported for 3RR and has blocked by other admins as a sock has been vandalizing my user page for the past few days and luckily both counts they were reverted by an admin. Also, since I'm from Taiwan, I had a semi-strong argument regarding the ROC/Taiwan naming convention issues in the past, but that's kind of in the past now.
