Linus M. (talk ยท contribs) I've been around since March of 2006, and I would like to apply for adminship. Before I do so, however, I would like to gain feedback from my fellow editors to see where I can improve. MacGuy(contact me) 20:50, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I'm a frequent participant at WP:RFA. I can assure you that you don't stand a chance of getting promoted there anytime soon. Don't even think about seeking a nomination until you've been active (200 or more edits per month) for 6 months, or your edit count is more than 4,000, whichever comes first. These are ballpark numbers, but they will give you an idea of the quantity of experience expected of an admin.
More to the point, the quality of your contributions must also improve. You have spent more time editing your user page than you have on any single article in the encyclopedia. The number one rule about Wikipedia is that it's an encyclopedia. It's not a game of cops and robbers, where you're the cop and the vandals are robbers. Almost all admins have gained some experience writing articles in their preferred field. I see you're an expert in chemistry and physics, and in science fiction related to these. Look in the categories and stubs related to these fields - there's always room to improve, and you may make virtual friends with some editors in the process.
Consider branching out in Wikipedia processes. My personal favorites are Wikipedia:Articles for deletion and Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. I do RFA just for fun, and also to learn what makes a good admin candidate in case I put my name there someday. I do AFD because I believe the credibility of Wikipedia depends on it not containing all sorts of crap. Both processes teach me how to discuss and build consensus with other users, and to learn from the viewpoints they express. Of course, your anti-vandalism work will always be appreciated. When in doubt, remember to assume good faith.
Overall, you are doing fine as a user. I am offering suggestions how to "branch out," if you wish to embark on the path toward adminship. YechielMan 21:24, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I've recently begun to attempt to heavily combat vandals, and I'm quite pleased with the results of my efforts.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I have had two reversions of edits that I made that unintentionally detracted from articles, and have had one editor take issue with an edit that I made that, although it did expose the subject material more accurately than the previous version had, did not expose it as completely as it could have, but I do not feel like I have had any significant conflicts with anyone thus far, except perhaps vandals. Overall, I would tend to believe that my relationships with other editors have been acceptably amicable.
