[edit] Edit or Edit this page?
I suggest this is changed back to say Edit this page. This was a well-known phrase within Wikipedia and is mentioned in many of the help pages. It also encourages people to edit more than a simple "edit" tab does. Adding the two extra words won't affect the layout of the tabs as they move along automatically to accommodate the extra words. See simple: for example. Angela. 05:49, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- I like the sound of it but with the options in tabs for admins it doesn't fit here within 900 pixels or so of browser width. "Edit page" might fit, perhaps if the gaps between some options were reduced. It's fine for those who aren't logged in, of course - very few options for them, so plenty of room. - And "discussion" -> "discuss this page", or is that going to be too long? — Lady Lysine Ikinsile 05:54, 2004 Jun 21 (UTC)
- The tabs need to be made to wrap properly for smaller screens. Currently in IE, they move all over the place and in Mozilla, they widen the screen. If there were not these size constraints, I would support changing "discussion" to "discuss this page" as well. Angela. 05:43, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- I agree that "edit this page" is much better than a simple "edit," but that change is throwing off my tabs on almost every page, as described by Jamesday above. Is there a way to change this one in personal js and css files (for those of us who are having this problem)? – Jrdioko (Talk) 21:57, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- I also say Edit this page. PikminloverMeep! 01:10, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Because of the change to edit this page, those with an 800x600 resolution now need to scroll horizontally a bit. IMO it should have been left as edit. Dori | Talk 15:30, Jul 6, 2004 (UTC)
- Just an update on the situation for those curious: The CSS for the tabs was fixed several months ago so that most of the former problems are gone. —Lowellian (talk) 10:04, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] April Fool's Day 2005
I suggest the admins should relive April Fool's 2005 on Wikipedia and change it to vandalise this page again... --WhiteTimberwolf 08:28, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Why the tab sometimes appear as only "Edit" instead of "Edit this page"
Occasionally, the "edit this page" tab appears simply as "edit" (and sometimes the text is no longer bold...or is that just my own CSS? I forget). Any explanations? —Mulad (talk) 18:12, May 20, 2005 (UTC)
Er, wait.. from Wikipedia:Village pump:
- Developers aren't changing anything, and no-one is messing around. "edit" is the default text, and mediawiki:edit has been changed to read "edit this page". Normally, mediawiki:edit overrides the default, but sometimes, when the database server has a hiccup, mediawiki is forced to use the installation default. -- John Fader (talk | contribs) 11:12, 2 May 2005 (UTC)
Kinda sorta what I thought... —Mulad (talk) 18:15, May 20, 2005 (UTC)
