[edit] Brief history
They were founded in 1948 by a consortium including Frank Varey and R.L.Rae. The team operated at Old Meadowbank 1948 until 1954 and from 1960 until 1967. [2]
The Monarchs moved to Coatbridge and raced at Cliftonhill for two seasons. Speedway returned to Edinburgh and the Monarchs raced at Powderhall Stadium from 1977 until 1995. A season at Shawfield operating as the Scottish Monarchs was followed by a return of the Edinburgh Monarchs operating out of Lothian Arena at Armadale.[2]
The Monarchs have only won the Premier League championship once in their history, in 2003.[3]
