The edificio España (Spain building) is one of the tallest buildings in Madrid (117 meters and 25 floors over ground), and also one of the better examples of the twentieth century architecture in Spain.

It was designed by the architect Julio Otamendi (author of the nearby Torre de Madrid) and his brother, the engineer Joaquín Otamendi, and was finished in 1953.

It used to house offices, apartaments, hotels and had a swimming pool in the roof top. It is unused since being sold in 2005. The company wants to renovate it, but says that acquiring the necessary concessions in Madrid always takes some time..[1]
