[edit] Proposed project

Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Edgar Allan Poe. John Carter 18:15, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

I didn't realize I was proposing a full WikiProject. Is that a requirement to create a portal? If so, that wasn't clear in any of the pages I read. --Midnightdreary 22:43, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
It isn't. But it is useful to have some external coordination, and possibly help in the development of the related content. Also, the lead was changed by me initially to conform to the portal standards, which are that the lead should basically contain only text from the main article on the subject. It isn't required of all portals, but it is required if the portal is to be considered for Featured portal status. John Carter 15:14, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Hmm... so are you proposing a Poe WikiProject? I'm not saying it's a bad idea but I'm hoping this portal will be maintained by volunteers. Really, I was just hoping this portal would serve as a vehicle to bring Poe fans together, not necessarily to promote the main article on Poe. By the way, I didn't see anything in Wikipedia:Portal/Guidelines that says the intro should only contain text from the main article. Maybe I'm missing it? In the meantime, I don't think we need to be in a hurry to get this into a featured portal. :) --Midnightdreary 16:19, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disambiguating "horror"

Perhaps it's the late hour but I couldn't immediately discern how to edit the text of this portal page so I'll leave well enough alone and post this as a request instead. For purposes of disambiguation, could you please change any wp tags currently pointing to "horror" to instead point to "horror fiction" or "horror (emotion)" as appropriate. Thank you. - Dravecky 09:17, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Um, never mind. I figured out what I needed to edit to safely make this change. Please do keep in mind the specific tags when generating future content. Thanks! - Dravecky 09:19, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Many thanks for catching that! --Midnightdreary 14:28, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bicentennial

There are several sites that are commemorating the bicentennial of Poe's birth on Jan. 19 2009. And there will be a number of events held, as well. Should this have its own section in the Poe article or a page of its own?Hodgson (talk) 14:27, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I don't think it would belong on Poe's own article as it's sort of pop culture trivia right now. Maybe closer to the events, when things are officially announced, it would be worthy of an article just on the Poe bicentennial (even then I'm not sure it's necessary). --Midnightdreary (talk) 22:24, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
