Edgehill College is a co-educational independent school situated in Bideford, Devon. Founded in 1884 by the Bible Christian movement, Edgehill is one of a number of independent schools owned by the Methodist Church of Great Britain and is sister-school to nearby Shebbear College. It was traditionally the main all-girl private school in the area, but is now co-ed throughout the age range (3 months to 18 years).
Edgehillians are randomly made members of a 'Competitive House' upon induction. These three houses were historically named after the boarding houses Kiltrasna, Carisbrooke, and Belvoir ('Beaver'). More recently they have been named after local rivers, Taw, Torridge and Tamar. The students of a house then compete against the others in inter-house games, and annual inter-house music and drama competitions. Since 2002, these music and drama events have usually been held at the new Burton theatre extension at the back of the main building.
The school enjoys a national reputation in gymnastics. It is currently the ISA Under 16 National Netball champions and came 3rd in the Under 14s.
On March 5th 2006, a fire caused costly damage to the main school building. Nobody was hurt in the incident. Another fire caused significant damage on 11th May 2008.
