Edgar Eduardo Castillo also known as "El Homie" or "El Gringo" (born October 8, 1986 in Las Cruces, New Mexico) is a Mexican-American playing soccer in Mexico. He played for Mayfield High School, in Las Cruces NM, from 2001 and 2004 under Coach Arturo Garibay (one of New Mexico's most successful H.S. Soccer Coaches). In 2002, as a Sophomore, he was named NSCAA/adidas High School State Player of the Year.
Castillo also attended a series of one of the most prestigious youth soccer tournaments in the United States, internationally known as Dallas Cup in 2005 He had an outstanding performance against an U-19 squad of English Premier League's Aston Villa, blasting through the left side and pounding one in the back of the net to help Santos Laguna defeat the Europeans 4-1. They made it to the Dallas Cup final for the Super Group but went down to Atletico Paranaense of Brazil 1-0.
Edgar is currently a left defensive starter in Primera División de México's Santos Laguna. He was a player for the Regional National pool for many years. He was one of the top players in New Mexico as he helped and led Mayfield High School to two State Champion games. While playing for the Strikers IV (a Club team out of Las Cruces NM) they were ranked 1st in the state and 7th the in nation. His younger brother, Noel Castillo, is on the reserve team for Santos Laguna.
On 31 August 2007, Hugo Sanchez, Mexico's coach, called Edgar Castillo for the two upcoming friendlies with Panama (9 September) and Brazil (12 September), which were be played in Puebla, Mexico and Boston, Massachusetts, USA respectively.
On, August 22, 2007, Mexico lost 1-0 to Colombia, in Denver on an excellent 53rd-minute goal by Jaime Castrillon in a game that saw New Mexico-born Edgar Castillo make his debut for Mexico. Edgar Castillo played most of the second half as a left mid-fielder. On March 14, 2008, Castillo scored his first ever goal for Mexico in an 2008 CONCACAF Men's Pre-Olympic Tournament match against Guatemala in the 9th minute, a match which Mexico would lose 2-1.
