[edit] Consistency
From my experience the label CAGED is more common for this system than EDCAGE. Also, the page Guitar chord makes extensive reference to the CAGED system. Does anyone know more about this? --Amazzing5 19:12, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
As with the tablature notation system its got precious little to do with music. Why so many guitarists persist in the assumption that most of their colleagues are too dim to read music is beyond me. It makes me despair. No other instrument is inflicted with such an appalling 'paint by numbers' system. Richard 14:16, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Your right, tablature has nothing to do with music. Rather, as you pointed out, it has to do with notation. Also, it far predates anything resembling sheet music as we know it today. The 17th century guitarists adopted tablature from the (rather) noble tradition of the lute. This was a great improvement over the previous alphabeto system of notation used in earlier guitar compositions. EDCAGE (or CAGED as I have heard it referenced everywhere but here) also has nothing to do with music in as much as it is a conceptual system. Every instrument I have spent some time around, including piano and violin, use some sort of visual system to organize notes. The guitar, because of its unique layout is in dire need for visual systems for learning note, scale, and chord placement. I know guitarists that can play any scale and any chord but can't name a single note and others that can sightread sheet music but couldn't play a simple chord by name. --Amazzing5 16:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Warning?
is the warning REALLY necessary?
