User:Ed Poor

Ed Poor (talk • contribs • logs • block user • block log • checkuser) got confused about the difference between objectivity and neutrality a while back, but he's much better now.
I was invited (via IRC private message) to join the Wikipedia Review, but then warned that mentioning that blog here would get me banned. Oh, well, I'm getting old and it's time to retire maybe ;-)

[edit] Controversies
Ed's speciality is recognizing the existence of overlooked controversies.
- Hey, I didn't know there was any disagreement over that.
- Well, now you know. :-)
All I want is for articles to step back and refrain from drawing conclusions about conflicting views; to permit all significant published points of view are to be presented, not just the most popular one; to refrain studiously from stating which is better; and to leave reader to form their own opinions.
- DDT
- Is it dangerous to humans? How dangerous, and who says?
- Does it hurt wildlife? When it's used how? And is their a scientific conensus?
- Is it ineffective in malaria prevention campaigns? If so, why? And what better alternatives are there?
- Politicization of science
- What are the generally agreed upon definitions? Or do liberals and conservatives have different definitions? (Or should that be "objective scientists" vs. money grubbing capitalists? ;-)
- What historical examples can all sides agree on? (Or is this a false controversy?)
I have been blocked 5 times in the 7 years I've been here. Three of these were justified.
[edit] Awards
I probably shouldn't bother, because I'm not really interested in showing off. But just to "try them on" ...
