Talk:Ed Begley, Jr.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I notice on the guest credits of "Boston Legal" that Ed Begley, Jr. no longer uses the "Jr." as part of his name. His "official" website, though, still includes the Jr. It might be interesting to research and document this bit of trivia. Esjones 00:55, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
He was lampooned well on The Simpsons. Riding in a car 'powered by his own sense of self-righteousness'. Dead-on.

[edit] Kentucky Derby jockey story
[edit] Moved from article
I moved the following from the article to here as such discussions belong on the talk page. I have no opinion formed about the assertions: "*Kentucky Derby item NOT TRUE. The '72 Derby 4th place horse was Introductivo, ridden by Robert Breen. In fact, there has never been a horse run in the Kentucky Derby named "Three-Legged Joe". [And probably never has been a 6'-3" jockey in the race.]" Dina 13:47, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Removed jockey story
The entry objected to above is almost certainly spurious. Here it is:
"Begley's environmentalism stemmed from a very young age, perhaps from his interest in horses. His grandfather owned a farm in Kentucky, known as Wild Acres, where he raised and trained race horses. Begley spent each summer of his childhood and adolescent years training to become a jockey, and if it had not been for an audition in Kentucky one summer for Cockfighter in 1971, Begley would have become a jockey for a living. In fact, in 1972, Begley raced in the Kentucky Derby on a horse named Three-Legged Joe. Incidentally, the horse did have four legs, but was named so for its oddly-colored hind leg that seemed to be almost transparent. Though Begley did not win the Derby, he placed 4th." (Information from interview on March 13, 2006 with Los Angeles Times)
At the very least, this paragraph is incorrect. There was no "Three-Legged Joe" in the 1972 Derby, and no Ed Begley, either. The fourth-place horse was Introductive, ridden by Robert Breen. See http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2007/derby_history/derby_charts/years/1972.html
Google doesn't turn up a "Three-Legged Joe" in any Kentucky Derby or for Ed Begley with "Wild Acres."
This bit was added in two edits on May 16, 2007 (see [1] and [2]). These are the only contributions by User:68.226.130.156 to date. I will leave a welcome/warning on its talk page.--Hjal 17:51, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
this is what was left and it isnt to 'welcoming'
Welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome your help to create new content, but your recent additions (such as Ed Begley, Jr.) are considered nonsense. Please refrain from creating nonsense articles. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia....and maybe the reason those were the only edits is because of the rude treatment. -filmography-
he was also featured shortly in "who killed the electric car?" Could someone please add this? I don't know how to link it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.20.232.27 (talk) 23:29, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] merge proposal
Should Living With Ed be merged/redireted into this article? The show doesn't seem to be notable on its own. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 21:17, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see any reason why it can't be it's own article. Here are some national coverage it has recieved (NY Times [3]) (ABC News [4] (USA Today [5]). It is also been on blogs like autoblog. The show also features well known and notable celebrities such as Bill Nye, Ed Begley Jr (the host) Helen Hunt, Jay Leno and others. It may be on a niche network such as HGTV but just because a person hasn't heard of it doesn't mean it's notable. I'll admit the article is just a stub right now but it can be expanded but I think because of the coverage it is receiving and the people invovled with it that it is in fact notable. - Oppose. I consider the Living With Ed article notable enough to remain separate from this one. jareha (comments) 19:23, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose. Ed Begley, Jr. is an actor with credits that include Living With Ed, his life or career is not marked by the TV program alone plus the program has enough information to stand on its own. Noles1984 (talk) 17:04, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Albino
Does anyone know if Ed is an albino, or suffers from partial albinism? JettaMann (talk) 22:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Duct Tape Car
Removed "It was recently revealed on an episode of The Colbert Report that he also owns a car made of duct tape, presumably to demonstrate the value of recyling." This was just a joke in the Report's regular bit, The Word.--Joestape89 (talk) 04:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] 911 Truth Activities
Why was RxStrangelove allowed to delete a sourced and linked insertion about Begley's 911 Truth activities, simply by stating that it was "four year old material." Meaning that Begley's chairing of the 911 event was four years ago? By that logic, you should immediately delete from the article everything Begley did before 2004, including his birth. Does Wiki have a new policy that all events prior to 2004 are no longer pertinent to history? 75.161.66.170 (talk) 07:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
