Ed Stradling

Ed Stradling (born 1972 in Cardiff, Wales), is a freelance TV/video producer, whose most notable work is The Doctor Who Years[1], a series of three programmes commissioned by the BBC Doctor Who website[2] to coincide with the return of the famous science-fiction series in 2005.

Stradling has also produced a number of documentaries on DVD releases of TV shows, most notably Doctor Who, including the following:

  • Serial Thrillers, covering the work of producer Philip Hinchcliffe (included on the DVD of Pyramids of Mars)
  • A Matter of Time, written by Nicholas Pegg, covering the work of Hinchcliffe's successor, Graham Williams (included on the DVD of The Key to Time).
  • Paris in the Springtime, a feature written by Jonathan Morris, covering Douglas Adams' writing for the series (included on the DVD release of City of Death). This documentary was voted "Best DVD Special Feature of 2005" by members of Roobarb's DVD Forum [3]
  • Putting the Shock into Earthshock, a retrospective feature covering the making of the serial Earthshock (included in the DVD release of Earthshock).
  • A New Beginning, a retrospective feature covering the changes made by John Nathan-Turner when he took over as producer of Doctor Who in 1980 (included in the DVD release of The Leisure Hive, this feature included an interview with Nathan-Turner himself).
  • A Darker Side, detailing the conceptualizing, the writing, the set designing, the filming, and the viewership of the Planet of Evil serial.

He also worked on the 2002 DVD release of hit BBC costume drama I, Claudius, and with Sir David Attenborough on special features for the 2004 DVD releases of the BBC documentary series Civilisation: A Personal View, presented by Kenneth Clark, and The Ascent of Man, presented by Jacob Bronowski, both of which were commissioned by Attenborough during his time as Controller of BBC2.
